The new fleet of bikes for our Moldovan partner organization, CASMED, have arrived!
CASMED provides much needed care to vulnerable, elderly citizens in rural Moldova. Their program is based on the home-care model and their nurses travel across the northern part of the country, visiting and caring for those who are in need.
CASMED nurses made 46,250 home visits last year! To administer care, their nurses and social workers had travel on foot over hill and valley, walking along unpaved roads, chewed up by foot traffic, erosion, and automobiles. The burden of carrying their heavy medical equipment up these steep grades is exhausting, slowing the nurses down and limiting the amount of visits they are able to make in one day.
Last year we worked to address this problem. What was the simple solution? Bikes! Bikes are durable, able to handle unpaved roads, and are solid enough to carry up to 100 pounds of equipment. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to purchase a bike fleet for CASMED’s nurses and social workers. They now have their new wheels and the bikes have already had a huge impact, increasing the organization’s efficiancy and allowing staff to provide care for even more isolated seniors.
